Live-in Nanny vs Daycare

Last updated November 20, 2011

Every family's situation is different. For many families, hiring a live-in caregiver is the ideal solution.

•    You and your spouse leave for work early or stay late often,  it might be difficult to find a daycare to accommodate your hours.
•    A nanny is more likely to be flexible -- provided you pay her for the extra time.
•    A nanny can provide the special care that your child needs while at a daycare your child will be fighting the attention of the caregiver along with a few other children.
•    With a nanny, if it works out, your baby will have the same caregiver until they go to school whereas with daycare by their first year, they'll start transitioning to new teachers every six months or so.
•    With a nanny, you have no more getting your child and yourself out of the house in the morning or having to take the day off from work if your child is sick and daycare wants him/her to stay home.
•    With a nanny, you can set your own schedule so you can get some time for yourself or a date night with your significant other.
•    With a nanny, would not likely pick up bad habits and he is not as rough as some of his playmates that attend daycare.
•    With a nanny, your child would be as sick as often.
•    Any lack of socialization with other kids at a day-care, a nanny can read your lids storytime, go to weekend activities or to a nearby park.
•    Nannies are more affordable than you think. Try them out for a week or two and see how it goes and ask practical questions when interviewing.
